R-VPX VITA 46 Backplane

The board-to-board interconnect for embedded computing systems. ADMTEC supplies not only the connectors but the guide modules and guide pins that go with them, and keeps the main items in Korean stock.

OpenVPX

What VPX · VITA 46 is

OpenVPX is the open architecture that standardizes modules and backplanes in defense and aerospace systems. It defines pin assignments and interoperability criteria, and its purpose is to cut custom design work, testing, cost, and risk.

Amphenol supplies this ecosystem split by specification. VITA 46 covers high-speed signal, VITA 66 covers fiber optics, and VITA 67 covers radio frequency.

R-VPX is the ruggedized board-to-board interconnect built to VITA 46. It combines a PCB wafer construction with wafer loading patterns, so the module make-up can be changed.

Hardware

Guide modules and guide pins

A backplane system is not built from connectors alone. It also needs the guide modules and guide pins that steer each module into exactly the right position.

In our actual supply record the hardware share is the larger one.

R-VPX Evolution

When you need more speed — Evolution

R-VPX Evolution is the family designed for the latest high-speed protocols, delivering up to 32 Gbps. It meets the VITA 46 and VITA 47 performance requirements while still mating with existing VITA 46 backplane connectors.

The practical advantage is that a system whose speed requirement is rising can be answered without replacing the backplane.

Q&A

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it go straight into an existing VITA 46 backplane?

Yes. R-VPX is designed to be fully intermateable and intermountable with existing VITA 46 connectors. Even when you move up to the Evolution family for higher speed, it still mates with existing VITA 46 backplane connectors.

Do you supply only connectors, or guide modules and pins as well?

Both. Guide modules and guide pins come in zinc die cast and machined (aluminum, stainless steel) versions, and we also supply the backplane connector extraction tool. You can get the connectors and the hardware from one point of contact.

How many Gbps is supported?

The base R-VPX family goes beyond 10 Gbps, and the Evolution family supports up to 32 Gbps. It covers current protocols such as PCIe Gen 5, 100GBASE-KR4, and Serial RapidIO 25 Gbaud.

Can optical or RF modules be built into the same system?

Yes. R-VPX can be combined with optical modules (VITA 66), RF modules (VITA 67), and high-power modules. If the configuration is already decided, send us the slot layout and we will go through it with you.

What is the operating temperature range?

−55 °C to +125 °C. Storage temperature can reach a range close to the operating range, but the catalog states that normal room-temperature warehouse storage is recommended.

Can I get a C of C with the order?

Yes. We issue one for every order — what it covers and the original certificate are on the Authorized Distributor certification page.
